Terms of Use

Last updated: July 22, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Murmur (“the App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Description of the App

Murmur is a voice-first personal productivity application that lets you capture thoughts, tasks, reminders, meetings, financial notes, health logs, travel plans, and other structured entries using your voice or keyboard. The App transcribes recordings, categorizes content with AI, and syncs your data securely across devices.

3. User Accounts

  • You must create an account with a valid email address and password to use the App.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials.
  • You may update your profile information, including your display name and avatar, at any time from the Profile screen.
  • You may delete your account at any time. Upon deletion, your cloud-synced data will be removed from our servers subject to our retention policy described in the Privacy Policy.

4. Voice Recording and Transcription

  • The App requests microphone and speech recognition permissions to enable voice capture. These permissions are used solely to record your voice input within the App.
  • Your voice recordings are processed to produce a text transcription. This transcription, along with the structured entry derived from it, is stored in your account.
  • Audio recordings may be sent to our hosted processing service for transcription. Audio is not retained on our servers after processing is complete.
  • You retain full ownership of your voice recordings and the content you create.

5. AI-Powered Processing

  • Murmur uses AI models to transcribe your voice recordings and to automatically categorize and structure your captured content into entry types (tasks, reminders, meetings, finance, shopping, habits, health, travel, ideas, and general notes).
  • When you connect a writable calendar, AI processing may also determine whether a captured entry expresses an intent to create a calendar event and, when applicable, identify the calendar you named. You do not need to use words such as “add to calendar” for the App to recognize a future meeting or other time-bound event.
  • AI processing results may not always be accurate. You should review auto-generated entries and calendar events and edit or remove them as needed.
  • The App supports a local heuristic processing mode that runs entirely on your device without sending data externally when network connectivity is unavailable.

6. Calendar Integration

  • You may connect the App to your Apple Calendar (via system permissions) and/or Google Calendar (via Google OAuth) to view and reference calendar events alongside your entries and create events from eligible entries.
  • The App requests the calendar permissions needed for the features you enable, including read access for displaying events and write access for creating events. Calendar events may be cached locally on your device and in your account for offline viewing.
  • For calendar creation, Murmur may infer event intent from a future meeting, reminder, or other time-bound entry even when you do not explicitly mention a calendar. If you name an enabled writable calendar, the App attempts to use that calendar; otherwise, it may use your default or another enabled writable calendar.
  • The AI service returns event-creation instructions only. The mobile App performs the actual Apple or Google Calendar write using your authorized connection. Murmur does not guarantee that inferred event details or calendar selection will always be accurate.
  • Calendar access can be revoked at any time from device Settings (Apple Calendar) or from the Calendar screen's connection settings (Google Calendar).
  • Disconnecting a calendar or deleting your Murmur account does not automatically remove events already created in Apple Calendar or Google Calendar. You can review, edit, or delete those events in the applicable calendar service.

Google Calendar Integration

If you enable Google Calendar, you authorize Murmur to access limited Google account information and Google Calendar data needed to run that integration. This includes your Google account email address and the calendar data necessary to show your events inside the App, identify enabled writable calendars, and create events you request or that the App identifies from your captured entries.

  • Google Calendar access is optional and is only enabled after you grant permission through Google.
  • Murmur uses Google Calendar access for user-facing features such as displaying your schedule and creating events from meetings, reminders, and other time-bound entries. Event creation requires a Google Calendar permission that allows the App to write events.
  • To choose a destination calendar, Murmur may process calendar-list metadata such as the calendar ID, name, alias, connected account email, provider, and default-calendar status. Calendar IDs are used as supplied by Google and are not invented or changed by Murmur.
  • Calendar data may be cached on your device and stored as calendar snapshots in your Murmur account to support offline access and continuity across sessions.
  • Murmur does not use Google Calendar data for advertising and does not sell that data to third parties.

Your use of Google Calendar through Murmur is also subject to Google's applicable terms and policies. Murmur's use of data received from Google APIs is limited to providing and improving user-facing features within the App and is governed by the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

7. Third-Party Integrations

  • Notion: You may optionally connect a Notion workspace to sync your entries. Your Notion integration token is stored securely on your device. Synced content is governed by Notion's Terms of Service.
  • Obsidian: You may optionally sync entries to a local Obsidian vault via the Obsidian Local REST API. This integration communicates with your local device only and does not route data through our servers.
  • We are not responsible for the availability or behavior of third-party services.

8. Notifications

  • The App may send local notifications to remind you of tasks, meetings, and habit routines based on entries you create.
  • Notification permissions can be revoked at any time from your device Settings.
  • Murmur does not use notifications for marketing or promotional communications.

9. Data Export

  • You may export your entries at any time in CSV or Markdown format from the Settings screen.
  • Exported files are saved to your device's storage or shared via the system share sheet.

10. iOS Widgets

  • The App provides Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets that display summaries of your tasks, habits, and finance entries.
  • Widget data is shared between the App and the widget extension using a local App Group container. No widget data leaves your device independently.

11. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the App.
  • Introduce malware or interfere with the App's services.
  • Impersonate another person or provide false information in your account.

12. Intellectual Property

All content, design, code, and branding within the App are the property of Murmur's developers. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes.

13. Disclaimers

The App is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that AI transcriptions or categorizations will be error-free, or that the App will be uninterrupted or free of bugs.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, including loss of data.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. We will notify you of material changes via an in-app notice.
